The Dental Assisting Teacher prepares high school students for careers in the dental field by delivering engaging, hands-on instruction aligned with Ohio’s Career-Technical Education standards. This full-time role integrates classroom, laboratory, and clinical teaching, guiding students through credential attainment and professional skill development. Success in this position requires expertise in dental practices, effective communication, classroom management, and a strong commitment to student achievement and industry standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Ohio Career-Technical Workforce Development (CTWD) teaching license in Dental Assisting (171012) or ability to obtain through an Alternative Resident Educator pathway.
  • Minimum five (5) years of full-time recent experience in the dental-related field (ie, dental assistant, dental hygienist, etc.).
  • Hold a current and unrestricted Ohio Dental Assistant Radiographer Certificate (issued by the Ohio State Dental Board).
  • A certified professional in a dental-related field (ie, dental assistant, dental hygienist, etc.).
  • Meet all health and background check requirements as mandated by Ohio law, including:
    • Negative tuberculosis test.
    • Ohio BCI/FBI background check clearance.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (can be obtained upon hire).
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and attend school-related events outside of regular hours.
  • Ability to maintain professional licensure and meet ongoing professional development requirements.
  • Meet all health requirements mandated by law (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.).
  • A response from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and/or the Federal Bureau of Investigation was deemed acceptable by the Board.
     

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver instruction based on Ohio’s Dental Assisting standards and technical content.
  • Lead lab and clinical activities, ensuring safety and compliance with OSDB and OSHA regulations.
  • Prepare students for industry certifications (e.g., Ohio Radiographer, CPR).
  • Promote professional behaviors, soft skills, and workplace readiness.
  • Integrate technology tools (e.g., Google Workspace, digital x-ray, LMS) in teaching.
  • Manage classroom behavior and maintain safe, inclusive environments.
  • Track student progress, support credential testing, and provide academic interventions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, families, and district staff to support student success.
  • Participate in IEP/504 planning and ensure accommodations are implemented.
  • Maintain records for student performance, inventory, clinical hours, and compliance.
  • Stay current with industry and instructional best practices through professional development.
